Day Trip to Barbuda
A day trip to Barbuda feels like stepping into a postcard that forgot how to be crowded. Just a short boat ride from Antigua, the island is known for its untouched beauty—think miles of blush-pink sand at Pink Sand Beach, crystal-clear waters, and a pace so slow it practically resets your nervous system. With no mega resorts or packed excursions, Barbuda invites you to truly unplug, whether you’re snorkeling over vibrant reefs, spotting frigate birds at the Barbuda Frigate Bird Sanctuary, or simply soaking up the quiet luxury of having the beach almost to yourself. It’s the kind of destination that reminds you why you travel in the first place—and why a single day can still feel deeply restorative. Perfect for travelers craving authenticity, serenity, and natural beauty, Barbuda is a must-do escape when you’re in Antigua.
How To Get There?
We took the Barbuda Express from St. John’s which is the same area where the cruise ships dock at. It’s best to go first thing in the morning because there are not a lot ferries that go out there during the day and they come back before dark. It is a bumpy ride. If you’re prone to getting sea sick then I would pack meds. Once you get off the ferry, you will need a taxi to get around and cash to pay for the bird sanctuary and cab ride. They do accept Eastern Carribean which is their currency. It’s always best to coordinate your taxi in advance or you can take a chance and hop in a taxi with someone else once you get there. We didn’t know any better and shared a taxi with other people who were going to the same places as us.
Where to Eat?
The most important part of this is the food. We had a nice lunch at Nobu Barbuda. You need to make a reservation because it gets filled quickly.
