Things To Do In D.C. and Maryland

Things To Do In D.C. and Maryland

Back in October I took a road trip to Washington D.C. and Maryland. I was debating if I wanted to break this into two posts, but I thought it would be best to just do one and give you the rundown of all my activities from all of my past experiences. I discovered a cheaper bus called Flixbus and it was much cleaner than my past experiences on other bus companies. Just sayin'.

Maryland and D.C. is far enough to where you don’t have to travel on the plane, but still get there in a decent time by bus or car. You can go to learn more about history at the National Mall or visit a few museums as well. Both locations are known for good food and wine. It gives options for everyone. Read more below to see where I ventured off to.

National Museum of African American History and Culture

The National Museum of African American History and Culture is a Smithsonian Institution museum located on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. You should plan to go way in advance. You will need a day or more to explore. Free passes are timed for your visit. Click below to plan your trip!

King Street Oyster Bar NoMa

The Washington D.C. location was a good vibe. They had outdoor heaters, music and the happy hour menu was on point. I’ve heard their brunch is good as well and I will check that out next time. Make sure you at least try oysters if you go. They do have other items on the menu if you’re not a fan of oysters.

National Harbor

The waterfront is home to a vibrant carousel and a unique sculpture, plus a ferry terminal and a marina sporting a Ferris wheel. It offers retail shopping, bars and restaurants. I would recommend this for the summer or good weather. It’s family oriented and it caters to everyone. You can buy tickets in advance for the Capital Wheel or in person. It gives a great view of the entire harbor.

McCormick and Schmick’s

This restaurant is located at the National Harbor, across from The Capital Wheel. The view of the harbor skyline is really nice at night. You should make reservations before you go. This location tends to get crowded quickly since it is in a tourist area. I got one of their signature meals and it was so good!

This restarant is an upscale chain serving new American fare paired with house-label wines in a contemporary setting. It’s best to make dinner reservations and wine tasting is walk-in only.
