How to Spend a 9-Hour Layover in Iceland at the Blue Lagoon
When I realized I had a nine-hour layover in Iceland, I knew I wanted to make the most of it. Rather than sitting at Keflavík International Airport waiting for my connecting flight, I decided to turn my layover into a mini Icelandic adventure, and a visit to the iconic Blue Lagoon was at the top of my list.
The best part? Blue Lagoon is only about 15–20 minutes from Keflavík International Airport, making it one of the easiest Iceland experiences to add to a long layover.
If you have a long layover in Iceland and want to know whether you can squeeze in the Blue Lagoon, the answer is yes — with some planning.
Why Visit the Blue Lagoon During a Layover?
The Blue Lagoon is a geothermal spa surrounded by Iceland's dramatic lava fields. Its milky-blue geothermal seawater is rich in silica, algae and minerals, creating the otherworldly experience Iceland is famous for.
For a traveler with limited time, the location is what makes the Blue Lagoon particularly appealing. Keflavík International Airport is not that big and you will have no problems leaving and coming back in to get to your gate.
How Much Does Blue Lagoon Cost?
Blue Lagoon admission varies by package and date. You can check the website for the Comfort package, with Premium and Signature packages. They also have meal packages for their restaurants.
